Working at Northumbria

Northumbria University is the largest research and teaching university in the North East of England, filled with outstanding facilities and opportunities for staff and students alike.

This research-engaged professional university has become one of the most deeply embedded of all the North East universities in the industrial, professional and commercial sectors and in civic life.
Based in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, one of the UK's most dynamic and exciting cities, we are one of the major employers in the North East of England with around 3,200 members of staff in a variety of academic, research, professional and support roles.

Northumbria University offers a positive, engaging and empowering working environment, putting personal development at the heart of its agenda, and according to the 2009 Staff Survey, 92% of staff say they find Northumbria a good place to work, with 88% saying they feel proud to work here.
Along with competitive salaries and generous financial benefits, the University offers employees a wealth of non-financial benefits including flexible working, generous annual leave entitlements, childcare facilities and a corporate public transport scheme.

The University environment is as important as the working space. Just minutes walk from the city's shopping centre and Quayside, Northumbria is also home to an acclaimed contemporary art gallery, attractive pedestrian walkways and social spaces for all to enjoy.

The Students' Union is open to staff who can enjoy concerts and performances in its three main event spaces and the adjoining £30m Sport Central complex boasts a host of facilities including a fitness suite filled with 150 machines - each with personal TV screens and MP3 docking stations to keep you entertained while exercising - squash courts, a swimming pool, climbing wall and exercise classes. Its 3,000 seat arena is home to the Newcastle Eagles basketball team who play there on Friday evenings during the season and staff can even purchase discounted family tickets for their home games.

This dynamic and positive working environment, coupled with its location in a culturally rich and vibrant city, makes Northumbria University a great place to work.
